Nuba Proudly Supports the Tough Lovers ALS Fundraiser at the Fox Cabaret

On Thursday, May 1 come raise awareness for ALS while enjoying some great local music at the second annual Tough Lovers ALS Fundraiser. Every day two to three Canadians die from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease. This rapidly progressive neuromuscular disease can strike anyone at anytime, regardless of age, gender, or ethnic origin. The equipment costs for each patient average $137,000, while nursing and home care costs can be up to 10 times this amount.   Building off the success of the 2013 edition of the event, which raised over $5,500, Vancouver’s independent music community will be coming together to raise money for the ALS Society of BC.   The event is organized by local indie rock stalwarts Tough Lovers, who will be headlining the event and playing new material from their forthcoming full-length. Joining them on stage will be upstart rock n roll outfit Smash Boom Pow. In addition to that, there will be silent auction with offerings from Nuba, Cavalier: The Fine Jewellery Shoppe, Union Wood Co., JD’s Barbershop, Vancouver Urban Winery, and more.

Advance tickets are $15 and be purchased at

Every year, KidSafe serves 450 of the most vulnerable children in Vancouver on the principles that children are professionally referred and all services are offered absolutely free of charge.   This year, KidSafe was chosen as one of the 10 official charities for the BMO Vancouver Marathon to be held on May 4th. Their goal is to have 100 runners join their Team of Heroes to raise $100,000 for the children in their programs. The money that is raised will go towards KidSafe break programs where the children will receive their daily nutrition, one-to-one and group counselling, safe shelter, and supervision from caring adults. As an incentive for participating, Nuba is donating a gift card that will be given to the group of runners that raise the most money.   If you'd like to participate in the marathon, full details are available on KidSafe's website.
